John Hays has been the Senior Pastor since 1981. The vision statement for Jersey Baptist Church is “To bring people to Jesus and develop them into fully mature, reproducing followers.” Pastor John celebrated his 25th year of ministry in 2006, however he continues to dream of new ways to reach people for Christ and to build a church for His glory. Pastor John also believes the best days are still ahead for Jersey. Pastor John and his wife Jan have two children, John Conrad Hays, single, employed and available and Elizabeth married to Ben Curtis, with Grandbaby #1 on the way in February 2011.

 

 

 

 

 

Hobbies: Cycling, Turkey Hunting, and Skiing

 

Favorite Movie(s): I like to sleep during movies, I see movies as a great time to catch up on sleep.

 

Favorite food: BEEF or anything Italian/Pasta

Starla is the Executive Assistant to our Senior Pastor.  Starla is responsible taking care of and assisting Pastor John; whatever/whenever.  It is a full-time job she loves it!

Starla is married to John.  They have two children; John Ryan, married to her favorite daughter-in-law Jillian, and Ashleigh who is living in Scotland doing her graduate studies at The University of Aberdeen.  No grandchildren to date, but a granddog named Charlie.  She was born in Columbus, Ohio and joined the Jersey staff in 2007.

 

 

 

 

Hobbies: Sitting on my side porch; Studying God’s Word and reading books.  Walking in Granville with my hubby, and then having Whit’s Frozen custard.

 

Favorite movie(s): The movie I watch every time I see it is on is: The American President.  Other than that, anything animated.

 

Favorite food: My favorite food is Grilled Meat; beef, chicken, pork and occasionally fish. Meat and a side salad or grilled vegtables and I am a happy girl.

 

Favorite vacation spot: Interlaken, Switzerland.  We went there for 4 days following a mission trip to Africa.  We have always said it is somewhere we would want to come back to, that was 10 years ago and Lord willing we will make it one day.

 

Favorite part about my job is: Knowing ahead of time what the Pastor is going to preach on this week, and being able to meditate on it prior to the sermon, in my own quiet time.  I have yet to get out of the scripture exactly what he has; it is always a surprise and is never the same in all three services.

Nancy is the Administrative Assistant to our Associate Pastor.  She is responsible in assisting Pastor Phil with the vision he has for his ministry, doing whatever is necessary to bring people to Jesus and develop them into fully mature reproducing followers of Christ.

 

 

Nancy has been married to her husband Paul for 28 years.  They have 2 children, Amy who just graduated from Ohio University with a Middle-Childhood Education Degree and their son, Paul William, who is in his last year at Ohio Northern University majoring in Electrical Engineering.  He is also in the Air Force ROTC program and will be commissioned as an officer in May, 2011.  Both of their children are currently engaged to be married....so they will have a very busy year ahead!!  Nancy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and joined the Jersey staff in 1994.

 

 

 

 

 

Hobbies:   Scrapbooking with my daughter as she is very creative!  ....and following my son around on the golfcourse - as he is a member of the ONU Golf team.  I also enjoy my morning quiet time and walking our dog, Oscar, around Beechwood Trails.

 

Favorite movie(s):  I would have to say musicals…..particularly the Phanton of the Opera.  The music is awesome!!


Favorite food:  Watermelon in summer time is the best!  Pizza and ice cream…. anytime!!


Favorite vacation spot:  Loved the one time my family joined some of our church family on a cruise.  It was the best!!


Favorite part about my job is:  Watching lives being changed through the ministries of Jersey Baptist Church.

Pastor Phil is the Associate Pastor of Evangelism and Discipleship at Jersey.  After 21 years of service in the United States Air Force, he went on to get his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

 

Pastor Phil was married to Nance (who has gone on to be with the Lord). They had five children: Tammy, Tracie, Terri, Philip (deceased), and Trisha. They also have 11 grandchildren. Pastor Phil was born in Alexandria, Virginia. He has been on staff at Jersey since 1990.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hobbies: Working out, reading Bible, enjoying the presence of the Lord

Ryan is the Associate Director of Children's Ministries.  He partners with parents in the spiritual development of children in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Ryan comes to us from the Louisville, Ky. area. He grew up in the Western Kentucky area. Ryan is joined by his wife Sarah. She is a native of Columbus.  They are expecting their first baby girl in Novemeber of 2010.  Ryan joined the Jersey staff in 2010.

Keith Matthews has been a member of Jersey since 1987.  Then in 2000, he left the business world to follow a call to full-time ministry.  Keith has been the Director of Administration and Operations for the past 10 years.  In this role, Keith works with a team to oversee the following areas of responsibility:

 

-Communications
-Facilities
-Finance
-Human Resources
-Information Technology
-The Common Grounds Cafe
-The Annual Planning Process

 

 

     

    Having a broad business background gave Keith a good foundation for his current responsibilities. He continues to hone those skills by participating in the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA).  Keith is the Vice President of the Columbus Chapter of NACBA.  

     

    Keith also serves as the Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Metro Columbus Baptist Association.  Our association serves to foster cooperation, church planting, and resourcing of the nearly 100 Southern Baptist Churches in Central Ohio.

     

    Keith married his wife, Lori Carver-Matthews in July 2009. They enjoy traveling, playing games with friends and family, and spending time with their new granddaughter, Allison.
